Problem: how to solve,Determine if this point is a solution of the system
8x+11y=136
0x-y=-8

1) 8x + 11y = 136
2) 0x - y = -8

Multiply equation 2 by 11.

11(0x - y) = -8 * 11
3) -11y = -88

Add equation 3 to equation 1.

  8x + 11y = 136
+(     -11y =  -88)
----------------------
  8x           =   48
8x = 48
8x/8 = 48/8
x = 6

Keep it simple. Use equation 2 to solve for y.

0x - y = -8
0(6) - y = -8
0 - y = -8
-y = -8
y = 8

Use equation 1 to check the values.

8x + 11y = 136
8(6) + 11(8) = 136
48 + 88 = 136
136 = 136

Answer: x = 6, y = 8
