First, make 3 1/2 into an improper fraction: 7/2 (=(2*3+1)/2), then, because we need to divide by the fraction, we turn it upside down and multiply: 8*2/7=16/7=2 2/7. So 8 divided by 3 1/2 is 2 2/7.
