a line passes through (0,8) and has a slope of 2, what is the equation of the line?

The equation of a straight line, of slope = m and y-intercept = c is

y = mx + c

We are told the slope is 2. i.e. m = 2, which gives us

y = 2x + c

Since the line passes through the point (x, y) = (0, 8), then we can put x = 0 amd y = 8 into the equation of the straight line (y = 2x + c). This gives us,

8 = 0 + c

Therefore c = 8.

The equation of the straight line is: y = 2x + 8
