line 1...(3x/2y) -(6/2y)=4 become 3x-6=8y or y=(3/8)x -0.75

line 2...2x=0.5y+0.75...or y=4x-1.5

thus, 4x-1.5=(3/8)x-3/4

32x-12=3x-6

32x-3x=12-6.....29x=6

x=6/29...=0.20689651

y=4x-1.5=24/29-1.5

Multiply the second equation through by 4: 8x=2y+3 so 2y=8x-3 and 8y=32x-12.

Multiply the first equation through by 2y: 3x-6=8y=32x-12. 29x=6 so x=6/29 and 2y=48/29-3=(48-87)/29=-39/29, so y=-39/58.

The solution seems rather ungainly, so it makes me think that I interpreted the question wrongly or there is a mistake in the question!
