6x-2(x-4)= 2x+5+2x+3 6x - 2x +8 = 4x +8 4x+8 = 4x+8 0=0 x = all real numbers

This is an equivalence or identity, because the right-hand side=4x+8 and left-hand side 6x-2x+8=4x+8 are two ways of expressing the same quantity. It is true for all values of x.
