Earthly speeds

Given that the earth's radius is about 3,960 miles and earth is
about 93,000,000 miles from the sun, about how fast in miles per
hour is our planet moving around the sun in its approximately
circular orbit, and, if you were on the equator, about how fast
in miles per hour would you be spinning?

The circumference of a circle is calculated by multiplying the
diameter by pi. For the solar calculations, in order to keep the
size of the numbers manageable, they will be in units of 1,000,000.

c = (93 * 2) * pi
c = 186 * pi
c = 584.33    <-- million miles

That distance is traveled in 365.25 days, so divide to get miles per day.
584.33 mm / 365.25 da = 1.599 mm / da

To get miles per hour, divide by 24

(1.599 mm/da) / (24 hr/da) = 0.0666 mm/hr
That is 66.6 thousand miles per hour.

The equatorial diameter is 3960 * 2 = 7920 miles
c = 7920 miles * pi
c = 24881 miles

Traveling 24881 miles in 24 hrs, the hourly rate is
24881 miles / 24 hrs = 1036.7 mph

Despite these speeds we don't feel a thing! Thanks, Charles, great answer.
