George is in a building maintenance class. He has been asked to mix 5 1/2 quarts of blue paint with 2 1/3 quarts of white paint. How much total paint will he have?

Convert the fractions to a common denominator:
5 1/2 is 5 3/6
2 1/3 is 2 2/6

Now, you can add them.
5 3/6 quarts + 2 2/6 quarts = 7 5/6 quarts
