9/3 simplifies to 3 because 3 goes into 9 3 times.  6/10 can be simplified because 2 goes into 6 and 10, so 6/10=3/5 when we divide top and bottom by 2. We now have 3-3/5. There are 5 fifths in 1 so we can write 2+(1-3/5)=2+2/5= 2 2/5, two and two fifths. (Since 5/5 is 1, taking 3/5 away leaves 2/5.)
