X/2+42000=84000 X/2=84000-42000 X=42000/2 X=21,000 So the millionaire in Rhode Island is 21,000 And the millionaire in Kentucky is 63,000

Let K=millionaires in Kentucky and R those in Rhode Island.
K=R+42000. K+R=84000, so R+42000+R=84000. 2R=42000 and R=21000, making K= 21000+42000=63000.
The number of millionaires in Kentucky is 63,000 and 21,000 in Rhode Island.
