30% of $14=30/100*14=420/100=4.2=$4.20. So we add $4.20 to $14=$18.20.

30% is written as .30

Multiply the original number by .3 > 14 x .3 = 0.042

Add this new number to the original amount > 14 + 0.042 = 14.588

OR 14.59 OR 14.60, depending on how you round-up to the next decimal place (figuring for money)
