The parentheses tell us the numbers need to be multiplied together.
The numerical result is 4*2*8=64, but what about the sign?
A pair of minuses multiplied is plus. A pair of opposite signs multiplied is minus, so the first pair of minuses makes plus, then that plus with the third minus makes minus, so the answer is -64.
