d>-3.2. Working follows: Add 1 to both sides: 8-(5*d)/-2>0; -2 in the denominator of the fraction converts the minus in front of the fraction to +.
8+5d/2>0. Multiply through by 2: 16+5d>0. Subtract 16 from both sides:
5d>-16, so, dividing both sides by 5, d>-16/5 or d>-3.2.
Check out the answer by substituting in the original inequality a value for d just a little greater (higher) than -3.2. Let d=-3:
7-(5*-3)/(-2)=7-7.5=-0.5 which is greater than -1, so the inequality is preserved and d>-3.2 is the solution.
