You cannot solve this because there are two variables and only one equation. But you can graph it as a straight line which shows how one variable depends on the other. Draw two axes x and y at right angles to one another, y vertical, x horizontal. Mark the point 2 on the y axis (y intercept) and -8 on the x axis (x intercept). Draw a line through these two points so that they are joined. The line represents the equation and every point on the line is a solution to the equation.

y=1/(2*2)x+4/2
y=1/4x+2
y=mx+c
m=1/4
c=2
