Work out how many days till the end of 1978. 8 days left in October+30+31=69 days. Work out how many days from January 1 1982 to February 4: 31+4=35. 1980 was leap year. The total number of days for 1979, 1980 and 1981 is 365*3+1=1096. Therefore, the days between you are 1096+69+35=1200. To convert to years this is 3 years and 104 days.
