Linear equations
y = x+3
2x-y=4

y = x + 3
2x - y = 4

Substitute:

2x - y = 4
2x - (x + 3) = 4
2x - x - 3 = 4
x - 3 = 4
x = 7

y = x + 3
y = 7 + 3
y = 10

Check your answer.

2x - y = 4
2(7) - 10 = 4
14 - 10 = 4
4 = 4

Answer: x = 7, y = 10
