What do you mean by "4x11" ?

Do you mean 4 times 11 = (4 times 1) + (4 times ?)

call the question mark x

44 = 4 + 4x

subtract 4 from both sides

44 - 4 = 4 - 4 + 4x

40 = 4x

divide both sides by 4

40/4 = 4x/4

x = 10

.

Or did you mean something else?

Yes it's 4 times 11= (4 times 1)+(4 times?). She needs to find the missing number. It's fourth grade homework common core math,although there. Isn't any examples in the chapter to help give an explanation on how to attempt the problem which I also trying to explain to her and show her the process. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to answer. Any other advice like the order to which you work the problem out would be good too. :)
