Sherwood earned $35 last week. He earned twice as much for baby-sitting as he did for mowing lawns. He earned twice as much for mowing lawns as he did for washing cars. How much did Sherwood earn for each job?

I am helping my daughter with her homework. I looked at the question and immediately knew the answer but cannot "show the work." Can anyone help us?

make a diagram, $=one unit

washing cars: $ (one unit)

mowing lawns: $$(two units)

babysitting $$$$(four units)

total: $$$$$$$(7 units)

7$=35

$=5, one unit is 5 dollars

instead of $ you can use x

x+2x+4x=35

7x=35

x=5
