Which line shows the first error in the solution?
Three more than a number divided by 4 is –12. What is the number?
x/4 + 3 = -12                 (1)
x/4 + 3 - 3 = -12 - 3       (2)
x/4 = -9                         (3)
x/4 * 4 = -9 * 4              (4)
x = -36                         (5)

Line 3 is wrong. -12 - 3 = -15, not -9
