Probability of selecting a pair of white socks out of a mixture of 10 pairs of socks in various colours is 4/10=0.4. This leaves 9 pairs of socks including 3 white pairs. The probability of selecting one of the blue pairs next is 2/9. so the combined probability is 0.8/9=4/45 or 0.0889, or 8.89% approx.
