QUESTION: a mqneger brought some stamps. she xgave one third of it to an employee and one fith of it to her secretary. if the secretary recieved forty fewer stamps than the cashier, how many stamps did the cashier recieve

The number of stamps is divisible by 3, which means that the number of stamps is a multiple of 3.

The number of stamps is divisible by 5, which means that the number of stamps is a multiple of 5.

Since the number of stamps is a multiple of both 3 and by 5 then the number of stamps is a multiple of 15.

Let the number of stamps be N =15t.

Cashier gets 1/3 of stamps = (1/3)N = 5t stamps.

Secretary gets 1/5 of stamps = (1/5)N = 3t stamps.

Cashier gets 40 more stsamps than secretary.

Therefore, 5t = 3t + 40

Then, 2t = 40

t = 20

N = 15t = 300 stamps

Cashier gets 100 stamps
