The 9th term of an AP is a+8p, where a is the first term and p the constant difference between terms. If a+8p=3n+2, and n=9, then a+8p=29. If n=8, then the 8th term is a+7p=26, so the common difference is 29-26=3. (If p=3, then a=29-24=5.)
