 solve using elimination 6x+y=14 and x-4y=19.

6x + y = 14   --------- (1)
x - 4y = 19   ---------- (2)

multiply (2)  by 6.

6x +  y  = 14   ----------- (3)
6x -24y = 114   ---------- (4)

subtract (3) from (4).

-25y = 100

divide both sides by -25.

y = -4

Substitute for y = -4 into (3).

6x - 4 = 14

6x = 18

x = 3

The solution is: x = 3, y = -4
