Let the denominator be D.

The the numerator N = D-6.

And the fraction is N/D = (D-6)/D = 1/3

3(D - 6) = D   (get this by cross-multiplying)

3D - 18 = D

2D = 18

D = 9

N = 3

So the fraction is: 3/9
