x^3+2x^2-7x+4 = 0

By observation (trying out different values for x) x = 1 is a root, therefore (x-1) is a factor.

(x-1)(x^2 + 3x - 4) = 0

(x-1)(x-1)(x+4) = 0

So, the roots are: x = 1 (twice), x = -4
