apperantlee yu hav strate line along x-axis . . . from x=-11 tu x=+5...distans=16 . . . want tu find point 3 times as far from 5 as from -11 . . . . divide distans intu (1/4)...16/4=4 . . . distans from -11=4, so point=-11+4=-7 . . . this point...distans from +5=5+7=12 is 3 times 4

Problem: Find the coordinate of the point between -11 and 5 that is 3x as far from point 5 as from point -11
I am trying to find out what is meant by three times as far from one as from the other point and what would be the coordinate of the point between them. This questions deals with integers on a number line.

"...three times as far from one as from the other..." means that one distance could be 3 and
the other could be 1, or any multiple of those values, such as 6 and 2, or 9 and 3.

The distance between the specified points is 5 - (-11) = 5 + 11 = 16.
From my previous statement, you should see that the distance must be
divided into four intervals. 16/4 = 4. That would be the "1" unit.
The "3" unit would be 3 * 4 = 12.
Since the point we are looking for is 12 units from 5, and it has to be
toward the -11, we subtract 12 from 5: 5 - 12 = -7.

-7 is 4 units away from -11.

The answer you want is the co-ordinate is -7.
