3y + 5 - 8y = 4Y - 55 + 3Y    cancel 3y on both sides

5 - 8y = 4Y - 55          put the y-terms on one side and the constant values on the other

5 + 55 = 4Y + 8Y        add terms together

60 = 12Y                    solve for y

y = 5
