xy=12

x+y=7. so y=7-x

x*(7-x)=12

-x^2 +7x -12=0 or x^2 -7x +12=0

x=3 or 4

3*4=12,   3+4=7

a+b=7 and ab=12 wkt (a-b)^2=(a+b)^2-4ab therefore  (a-b)=7^2 - 4(12)=49-48

therefore a-b=1

on solvin a+b=7

                  a-b=1

we get a=4 and b=3
