x^2 - 2x -3 =0

x^2 +x -3x -3 =0

x*x +x -3x - 3*1 =0

x(x +1 ) -3 (x + 1) =0

(x+1 ) (x -3 ) =0

x +1 = 0 or x - 3 = 0

x = -1 or x = 3

x^2 - 2x - 3=0

x^2 + x - 3x -3=0

x(x+1)-3(x+1)=0

(x-3)(x+1)=0

x-3=0 , x+1=0

x=3 , x=-1
