solve the equation 4x+3y=6 5x-3y=21

Add the equations

    4x + 3y =  6
+ (5x - 3y = 21)
----------------------
    9x        = 27
x = 3

Substitute into one of the equations

5x - 3y = 21
5(3) - 3y = 21
15 - 3y = 21
-3y = 21 - 15
-3y = 6
y = -2
