Donna and Eric were 300 miles apart from each other and pining for one another. They arrange a meeting point. Eric sets out at 1 PM. It takes Donna some time to convince her dad to let her borrow the car. After some time, she sets out at 2 PM, but travels 10 mph slower than Eric. How fast was each traveling if they met at 4 PM

Eric's travel time is 3 hrs  (1PM to 4PM).
Donna's travel time is 2 hrs (2PM to 4PM).
Eric's speed is s.
Donna's speed is s - 10.
The distance Eric drove is 3 * s.
The distance Donna drove is 2 * (s - 10) = (2s - 20).
Added together, the distance they drove is 300 miles.

3s + (2s - 20) = 300
5s - 20 = 300
5s = 320
s = 64 mph

Eric was driving at 64 mph, and Donna was driving at 54 mph.

Proof? (3 hrs * 64 mph) + (2 hrs * 54 mph) = 300 miles
192 miles + 108 miles = 300 miles
300 miles = 300 miles
