what is the definition of y-intercept

The y-intercept is the point on the y axis where any
line crosses the axis. In an equation that is in
the form y = mx + b, the b is the y-intercept. The graph
of that line will cross the y-axis b units above or below
the x-axis, depending on whether b is positive or negative.
