One half less then three eights of a number is two thirds, what is the number?
Help I can't figure out this word problem with fractions ...
(3/8 x) - 1/2 = 2/3
3/8 x = 2/3 + 1/2
3/8 x = 4/6 + 3/6
3/8 x = 7/6
3x = (7/6) * 8
3x = (7/3) * 4
3x = 28/3
x = (28/3) * (1/3)
x = 28/9
Check it.
(3/8 x) - 1/2 = 2/3
((3/8) * (28/9)) - 1/2 = 2/3
