(x+2)^2-8=16*2

(x+2)^2-8=32

(x+2)^2=32+8

(x+2)^2=40

formula (a+b)^2=a^2+2ab+b^2

x^2+4x+4=40

x^2+4x+4-40=0

x^2+4x-36=0

now use quadratic formula to find the value of x

-b+_underroot b^2-4ac /2a
