nearest hundredth: 1.sin 82degrees=x 2. cos x=.39 3. tan 77degrees=x 4. tan x=9.7?

You are mixing apples and rattlesnakes.

1. sin 82degrees=x
Here, you are finding a decimal number: 0.990268

2. cos x=.39
Here, you are determining the size of the angle: 67.045 degrees

3. tan 77degrees=x
Again, finding a decimal number: 4.33147

4. tan x=9.7
Looking for an angle: 84.11 degrees

Sorry about that. I forgot about rounding to the nearest hundredth.
1. 0.99 (the value of the sine)
2. 67.05 degrees (the size of the angle)
3. 4.33 (the value of the tangent)
4. 84.11 degrees (the size of the angle)

Simply because the unknown is called "x" doesn't mean it is always the same thing. X is just a convenient name.
