The May 11 answer is correct, if impolite.

7^(x^2 + x) = 49

7^2 = 49

x^2 + x = 2

x^2 + x - 2 = 0

(x+2)(x-1) = 0

x = -2, 1

Question asks for positive value of x, so:

x = 1
