if 5.9 plus 3.8 times a number equals the sum of the number and 23.8, what is the numher?

please someone, I have been struggling with this problem for quite some time. Any little hint or helpful strategy to get to the answer would be very helpful. thank You !

3.8x +5.9 =x +23.8

2.8x =23.8 -5.9

2.8x=17.9

x=17.9/2.8

x=6.3928571
