x^2 + 10x  + 8 = -5

add 5 to both sides:

x^2 + 10x + 13 = 0

using quadratic formula:

x = (-10 +/- SQR(100 - 4(1)(13)))/2(1)

x = (-10 +/- SQR(48))/2

x = (-10 +/- 4SQR(3))/2

x ~ -8.47, -1.54
