3(5-y)=3(y+4)

3(5-y) = 3(y+4)

Solution

3(5-y) = 3(y+4)

Open the brackets

15 - 3y = 3y + 12

Collect like terms

15 - 12 = 3y + 3y

3 = 6y

Rearranging the terms

6y = 3

Divide through by 6

6y/6 = 3/6

y   =  1/ 2   or   0.5
