x+(5/3)x=40

(8/3)x=40

x=40 / (8/3)

=40*(3/8)

=120/8

x=15

x + 5 x / 3 = 40

Take out the LCM :

3 x + 5 x / 3 = 40

8 x = 40 x 3

8 x = 120

x = 120 / 8

x = 15 (answer)
