How do you work the problem: 2y+3=(3y+7)

2y + 3 = 3y + 7

Subtract 3 from both sides.

2y + 3 - 3 = 3y + 7 - 3
2y = 3y + 4

Subtract 3y from both sides.

2y - 3y = 3y + 4 - 3y

-y = 4

Multiply both sides by -1.

-y * -1 = 4 * -1

y = -4
