jon caught 3 fish that weighed 186. The total weight was 6 times the weight of the amberjack, The kingfish weighed twice as much as the amberjack. Jon also caught a tarpon. How much did each fish weigh?

compare what we know:

amberjack + kingfish + tarpon = 186

186/6 = amberjack

kingfish = 2*amberjack

tarpon = 186 - amberjack and kingfish

amberjack looks easiest: 186/6 = 31

using the new info we find the kingfish = 2*31 = 62

tarpon = 186 - amberjack and kingfish remember?

so, 186 - 31 - 62 = 93

check

amberjack + kingfish + tarpon = 186

31 + 62 + 93 = 186
