the product of two numbers is 40. one number is three more than the other. use the guess and check method

p1 = product one

p2 = product 2

p1 x p2 = 40

p2 = p1 + 3

p1 x ( p1 + 3) = 40

p1² + 3p1 = 40

P1² + 3p1 - 40 = 0

p1 = [ -3 ± √3² -4(1)(-40)] / 2(1)

p1 = [ -3 ±√9 + 160] /2

p1 = [- 3 ± 13]/2

p1= 10/2

p1 = 5◄ Ans

p1 = -16/2

p1 = -8 Ans

Gourmet sandwiches. Jenny, Demi, and Drew buy an 18-in. long gourmet sandwich and take it back to their apartment. Since they have different appetites, Jenny cuts the sandwich so that Demi gets half of what Jenny gets and Drew gets three-fourths of what Jenny gets. Find the length of each person’s sandwich.
