how do this problem 4y+3(2y-4)=y

Start with the multiplication shown by the parentheses

4y + 3(2y - 4) = y
4y + 6y - 12 = y

You need the y term on the right side moved to the left side

4y + 6y - 12 - y = y - y
9y - 12 = 0

Now, deal with the constant term

9y - 12 + 12 = 0 + 12
9y = 12

Last, divide by 9

9y / 9 = 12 / 9
y = 12/9
y = 4/3
