Problem: Write -5x + 4y = 6 in slope intercept form.

Solution:

First add 5x to both sides.
-5x + 5x + 4y = 5x + 6

This gives you:
4y = 5x + 6

Now divide both sides by 4.
4y/4 = (5x + 6)/4

y = 5/4x + 6/4

or in simplified terms.

y = 5/4x + 3/2

Hope this helps.
