Short Answer: No, you cannot add percents like that.

Complete Answer:  If you increase 1% 10 times, you are doing x*1.01 ten times, which expanded would be x*1.01*1.01*1.01 etc.... which can be re-writen as x*(1.01)^10.  By evaluating this, you get x*1.10462212541120451001.  This is quite different from increasing 10%, which would be done by doing x*1.1
