In this problem you need to deal with the absolute value portion first. Substitute -4 for X and multiply.

|(3*-4) + 2| - 4

|-12 + 2| - 4

|-10| - 4

Now take the absolute value of -10 which is 10

so you have 10 - 4 = 6
