start: 2x-x+(1/8)-(1/3)=5/24

x=(5/24)+(1/3)-(1/8)

x=(5+8-3)/24=10/24=5/12
by
2 x +1 / 8 - x - 1 / 3 = 5 /24

Take out the LCM of the denominators (8 and 3) = 24

After taking out the LCM, first solve the left side of the equation;

2 x + 1 /8 - x - 1/ 3 = 3 x + 3 - 8 x -8/ 24 (since 24 is the LCM)

= -5 x - 5 / 24 = 5 / 24

Solve both the sides now ;

= -120 x -120 = 120 ( cross multiplication method)

= - 120 x = 120 + 120

= -120 x = 240

= x = 240/ -120

= x =  - 2 ( answer)
