I'm having a hard time understanding some things about the slope of lines. If slope is negative, for example the slope is -5/2. Would it be DOWN 5 RIGHT 2, or DOWN 5 LEFT 2? I'm don't really understand that can someone explain?

DOWN 5 RIGHT 2

You don't know this yet, but the resultant slope is a vector.  Vectors have direction and magnitude.  So your first assumption was correct.
