solve by subtitution method: 3x+y=4 and 8x+2y=10
can anybody help me with subtitution please.

1) 3x + y = 4
2) 8x + 2y = 10

Solve the first equation for y in terms of x.

3x + y = 4
3x + y - 3x = 4 - 3x
y = -3x + 4

Substitute that value of y into the second equation.

8x + 2y = 10
8x + 2(-3x + 4) = 10
8x - 6x + 8 = 10
2x + 8 - 8 = 10 - 8
2x = 2
2x / 2 = 2 / 2
x = 1

Substitute the value of x into equation one.

3x + y = 4
3(1) + y = 4
3 + y = 4
3 + y - 3 = 4 - 3
y = 1

To verify, substitute both values into
equation two.

8x + 2y = 10
8(1) + 2(1) = 10
8 + 2 = 10
10 = 10
