So since y = 4x + 6   and   y = 2x you can subtitute one into the other.

y = 2x

4x + 6 = 2x

So now you can subtract 2x from both sides of the equation :

4x - 2x + 6 = 2x - 2x

2x + 6 = 0

And now you can subtract 6 from both sides of the equation:

2x + 6 - 6 = 0 - 6

2x = - 6

Now you can divide both sides of the equation by 2 to find the value of 'x' on it's own:

(2x)/2 = - 6/2

x = - 3

This means that we now have the x value for our equation. We can now put this value into either of the original equations to find the value of y .

y = 2x               x = - 3

y = 2(- 3 )

y = 2 × (-3)

y = - 6

Therefore the solution is   (-3, -6)     , so none of the choices are correct.
